Glass Scratch Removal Kit for Drills (Pumice & Cerium Oxide)

Light scratches and scuffs on glass can be polished out with patience and the right compound. This glass scratch removal kit uses the two-step method glass polishers rely on: pumice to smooth, then cerium oxide to bring back the clarity.

It is ideal for watch glasses, glassware, mirrors and glass screens.

What’s in the kit

• 1 x reverse-thread mandrel (6mm shank, fits any standard drill)
• 2 x 75mm felt polishing wheels (12mm wide)
• 150g pumice powder
• 150g cerium oxide polishing powder

What you can use it on

• Watch glasses
• Drinking glasses, vases and decanters
• Mirrors
• Glass screens, table tops and display cases

How to use it

1. Mix a little pumice with water to make a paste about as thick as single cream.
2. Fit a felt wheel on the mandrel and the mandrel in your drill.
3. Spread some paste on the glass and work the wheel in a figure-of-eight motion for around 3 to 5 minutes.
4. Keep moving and keep the glass damp. Add a sprinkle of water regularly and check the glass isn’t getting warm.
5. Rinse, then repeat with a fresh felt wheel and cerium oxide paste to restore the polish.

Good to know

• Heat is the enemy. If glass gets too hot it can crack, so keep the wheel moving and the surface wet.
• Removes light scratches and scuffs. It won’t remove deep scratches you can catch with a fingernail, or stone chips.
• Run at under 3,000 RPM.
• We don’t recommend polishing car windscreens, where any distortion matters.

Questions

Can it remove deep scratches from glass?

No. It re-polishes glass and removes light scratches. Deep scratches and chips can’t be taken out without distorting the glass.

What is cerium oxide?

A fine polishing powder widely used for glass. It gives the final clear finish after the pumice stage.

How long does it take?

Around 3 to 5 minutes per stage on a small area. Larger areas take longer.

Safety

Always wear eye protection and a dust mask when handling powders and polishing. Keep the glass wet and cool. Follow your drill’s instructions, tie back loose clothing and hair, and test on a hidden area first.
