Ordinary sandpaper has rigid grit that can leave deep, random scratches. Micro-Mesh grit sits on a cushioned layer, so each crystal gives slightly under pressure. The result is a shallower, more even scratch pattern that each finer grade removes quickly, until the surface looks polished.
Regular Micro-Mesh runs from 1500 up to 12000 and suits plastics, acrylic, wood and paint. MX grades are made for metal and harder surfaces.
Both work. Wet use with a little soapy water is best on plastics and acrylic because it keeps the abrasive clean and the surface cool.
