Our complete metal restoration kit. Strip back rust and grime with three grades of abrasive cleaning discs, then polish to a shine with three mops and compounds for both hard and soft metals.
If you restore old tools, car and motorbike parts or garden finds, this is the one kit that takes you all the way from grotty to gleaming.
What’s in the kit
- 1 x reverse-thread mandrel (6mm shank, fits any standard drill)
- 6 x coarse brown abrasive cleaning discs
- 6 x medium abrasive cleaning discs
- 6 x fine green abrasive cleaning discs
- 1 x 75mm dry sisal polishing mop (coarse)
- 1 x 75mm white stitched polishing mop (medium)
- 1 x 75mm soft WDR polishing mop
- Brown cutting and blue polishing compound for aluminium, brass and copper
- Black cutting and pink polishing compound for steel, iron and chrome
What you can use it on
- Rusty tools, vices and vintage hardware
- Car and motorbike parts
- Garden tools and outdoor fittings
- Any ferrous or non-ferrous metal that needs cleaning back and polishing
How to use it
- Stack between one and six discs of the same grade between the washers on the mandrel and tighten the reverse-thread nut. More discs make a wider, firmer tool.
- Fit the mandrel into your drill and run it at under 3,000 RPM.
- Start with the coarse brown discs to strip rust, grime and old finish. Apply light pressure and keep moving.
- Move to the medium discs, then the fine green discs, to smooth out the marks from the previous grade and leave an even satin finish.
- A cream cleaner can help on greasy or stained surfaces.
- Swap to the polishing mops. Load the sisal mop with the darker cutting compound for your metal and work over the surface.
- Finish with the stitched and then soft mop and the lighter polishing compound.
Good to know
- Works with a standard corded or cordless drill, an air tool, or any rotary tool that takes a 6mm spindle.
- Run at under 3,000 RPM.
- The cleaning discs are designed to wear as you use them. Avoid sharp corners, which wear them faster.
- The fine green discs can also leave a neat satin finish if you prefer that to a mirror shine.
- Refill packs of cleaning discs are available in coarse, medium and fine.
Questions
Does it work on both steel and brass?
Yes. The kit includes compounds for ferrous metals (steel, iron, chrome) and non-ferrous metals (aluminium, brass, copper).
Can it remove heavy rust?
The coarse discs strip surface rust and scale well. Deep pitting will still show after polishing.
Can I buy replacement discs?
Yes. Coarse, medium and fine refill packs of 20 are available.
Does the price include VAT?
Yes. The price shown includes UK VAT, and most items ship free within the UK.
Safety
Always follow your drill’s instructions and wear eye protection, gloves and a dust mask. Tie back loose clothing and hair and work in a well-ventilated area. The nylon discs release fine particles as they wear, so vacuum up the dust afterwards. Test on a hidden area first.
