Industrial Face-Contact Finishing with Dedeco TA Radial Discs
The Dedeco Sunburst 3″ TA radial disc is designed for medium-format industrial finishing where flatter face contact and faster material removal are more important than contour flexibility.
While TC curved-bristle discs are ideal for conforming to profiles, edges and irregular shapes, the TA geometry is better suited to broad surface contact. This makes it useful for fabrication, weld cleanup, casting cleanup and repetitive deburring operations.
The 3″ format also marks the transition from small precision radial discs into heavier-duty workshop and production finishing. Used in stacked configurations, these discs create a dense abrasive face for efficient surface conditioning across larger components.
Why Choose 3 Inch TA Discs?
Flatter Face Contact
TA radial discs are designed to present a firmer working face to the surface, making them effective for flat or open areas where fast cutting and surface coverage are required.
Higher Aggression Than TC Discs
Compared with TC curved-bristle discs, TA discs provide less flex and more direct surface engagement, helping reduce processing time on heavier cleaning and deburring work.
Production Surface Conditioning
The 3″ diameter provides a larger working area than small radial discs, making it suitable for repetitive fabrication, restoration and industrial finishing tasks.
Typical Applications
Fabrication & Weld Preparation
- Cleaning weld discoloration and heat tint
- Removing oxidation, scale and surface contamination
- Preparing fabricated parts before polishing or coating
Heavy Surface Conditioning
- Deburring flat machined components
- Cleaning castings and forged parts
- Refining larger metal surfaces after grinding or abrasive preparation
Production Finishing
- Repetitive bench-mounted finishing workflows
- Medium-scale industrial deburring
- Surface preparation where consistent face contact is required

Mounting & Compatibility
These are loose medium-format radial discs with a 9.5mm centre hole. They require a compatible medium radial disc mounting system.
MM506 Large Screw Nut Mandrel
Portable Rotary Tool Setup
The MM506 is recommended for portable and flexible use with tools such as drills, die grinders and compatible flexible shaft systems.
- 6mm shank for heavy-duty rotary tools
- Rear-tightening screw nut design
- Suitable for stacking multiple loose 3″ discs
- Best for portable fabrication, repair and workshop finishing
Tapered Spindle Screw Adapter
Bench-Mounted Production Setup
Tapered spindle screw adapters are recommended for compatible bench motors and polishing lathes where stationary finishing and repeatable workpiece control are required.
- Designed for loose medium radial discs with 9.5mm centre holes
- Best for bench-mounted production finishing
- Allows the operator to bring the workpiece to the abrasive
- Useful for continuous weld cleanup, blending and surface preparation
Important:
These loose 3″ TA discs are not the same as pre-assembled 3-ply or 6-ply radial systems.
Pre-assembled units include their own integrated centre and should be mounted according to their specific product instructions.
Compare Medium Radial Disc Systems
Not sure which medium radial disc system is right for your job?
TA discs are the aggressive face-contact option, while TC and Scotch-Brite formats provide greater flexibility, conformity or finish refinement.
| System | Best For |
|---|---|
| 3″ Dedeco TA loose discs | Aggressive flat-face deburring, weld cleanup and heavy surface conditioning |
| 3″ Dedeco TC loose discs | More flexible contour blending and broader grit progression |
| 75mm 3M Scotch-Brite loose discs | Controlled satin finishing, surface refinement and lower-aggression blending |
| 3″ Dedeco TC 3-ply assemblies | Ready-mounted medium finishing where a lighter pre-assembled setup is preferred |
| 3″ Dedeco TC 6-ply assemblies | Wider ready-mounted finishing for production blending and surface coverage |
Choose TA when flat-surface aggression and cutting speed are the priority.
Choose TC when conformity, contour blending and a wider finishing progression are more important.
Choose pre-assembled systems when you want a ready-mounted setup without manually stacking loose discs.
Operating Guidelines
Setup
- Use only with a compatible medium radial disc mandrel or screw adapter
- Ensure discs are clamped firmly between washers before use
- Stack multiple loose discs where a wider, more stable working face is required
- Check direction, balance and security at low speed before increasing RPM
Technique
- Use light to moderate pressure and allow the abrasive bristles to cut
- Keep the disc moving to avoid over-working one area
- Use coarser grades for oxidation, scale and heavy contamination
- Use 80 or 120 grit where a less aggressive blend or cleaner surface finish is required
Complete Your Medium-Format Setup
Portable Mounting
Use the MM506 mandrel for portable finishing with drills, die grinders and compatible heavy-duty rotary tools.
Bench-Mounted Setup
Use a tapered spindle screw adapter for loose 3″ radial discs on compatible bench motors and polishing lathes.
Need More Flexibility?
Choose 3″ Dedeco TC discs where contour blending, softer contact and broader grit progression are required.
