Micro-Mesh Polishing Swabs – 12-Grade Abrasive Variety Pack
Micro-Mesh polishing swabs combine cushioned abrasive technology with the control of a small handheld applicator. Their shaped abrasive heads make it easier to smooth, refine and polish localised surfaces, intricate features and areas that are difficult to reach with sheets, pads or rigid abrasive tools.
Each pack contains 12 colour-coded swabs in the selected size, with one swab in each grade from 100 MX to 12000. This provides a progressive selection for initial surface correction through to ultra-fine finishing.
Choose from three Swab Size options. Each product option clearly states both the overall length of the complete swab and the approximate dimensions of its abrasive working head.
The resilient Micro-Mesh abrasive structure conforms more readily to the workpiece than a conventional rigid sanding stick. This helps produce a controlled, consistent scratch pattern while reducing concentrated pressure points.

The swabs are intended for controlled manual finishing. For larger or flatter surfaces, another Micro-Mesh format such as a sheet, pad, disc, roll or file may be more efficient.

Which Swab Size Should I Choose?
- 2.25″ swab: the smallest and shortest abrasive head for highly localised finishing, small components, restricted recesses and intricate details.
- 3″ swab: a medium-sized head offering a practical balance of control, contact area and reach for general detail finishing.
- 5″ swab: the longest swab and largest abrasive head for broader localised surfaces or areas requiring additional reach.
Selection tip:
The longest swab is not necessarily the best choice for the tightest opening.
Consider the thickness and width of the abrasive head as well as the overall reach required.

The guidance below describes the typical relative role of each grade within this 12-grade set. The appropriate starting and finishing grades will depend on the material, existing surface condition and required result.

100 MX is the coarsest grade included and 12000 is the finest. The pack combines three MX grades with nine Regular grades to provide a broad progression for surface correction, refinement and finishing.
Micro-Mesh grade numbers belong to a distinct cushioned abrasive system and should not be treated as direct equivalents to conventional FEPA P-grits.

Always confirm material compatibility and test the proposed starting grade before working across a visible or critical surface. The achievable finish depends on the material, preparation and grade progression.
How to Use & Care for Micro-Mesh Swabs
- Assess the surface. Identify the mark, imperfection or existing scratch pattern that needs to be removed.
- Select a starting grade. Begin with the finest grade capable of correcting the surface effectively.
- Test the process. Check the selected grade on an inconspicuous area, particularly on coatings, plated components or delicate materials.
- Use light, controlled pressure. Move the abrasive head across the surface by hand using consistent strokes.
- Progress through finer grades. Only move to the next grade once the previous scratch pattern has been sufficiently refined.
- Clean between stages. Remove loose residue from the workpiece to reduce the risk of transferring coarser particles into a finer finishing stage.
- Clean the swabs after use. Rinse away residue where appropriate and allow the swabs to dry thoroughly before storage.
You do not always need to begin with 100 MX or use all 12 grades.
Starting unnecessarily coarse can create additional finishing work.
The correct starting and finishing grades depend on the material, existing surface condition and required result.
