Precision RODA Felt Shapes and a Complete 17-Piece Kit
RODA Mounted Dental Felts provide 17 compact shape and size options for controlled polishing and lapping of intricate components, recesses, contours, grooves and other restricted features. Every tool is ready-mounted on a 2.35mm (3/32″) metal shank for direct fitting to a compatible rotary handpiece without a separate mandrel.
The term Mounted Dental Felts describes their small, precise format and established use in dental polishing. The same tools are also used for jewellery, mould tools, precision-engineered components, medical components and other detailed finishing work.
The complete range is available in two purchasing formats. Choose the 17-piece kit to receive one of every listed shape and size, or select an individual code to receive a pack of 10 matching felts for repeat or production work.
These mounted felts are non-abrasive compound carriers. They are intended exclusively for use with a compatible polishing, cutting or lapping compound. The compound provides the abrasive action, while the selected felt profile controls access, contact area and support.
For more background on this relationship, read why felt is ideal for polishing engineered parts.
Choose the Complete Kit or Matching Packs of 10
| Supply Format | Contents | Choose It For |
|---|---|---|
| 17-Piece Complete Shape Kit | One mounted felt in each of the 17 listed shape and size options | Comparing profiles, identifying the most useful contact shapes and establishing which codes to reorder |
| Individual Shape Pack | 10 matching mounted felts in one selected code, shape and size | Replenishing a proven option, repeat work or maintaining a consistent production process |
The 17-piece kit is a fixed, complete assortment rather than a random selection. It contains one of every code shown in the shape table below, and individual shapes cannot be substituted.
The kit uses the same felt specification as the corresponding individual options. The DP0520 pointed cone is hardened to support its fine profile whether it is purchased in a pack of 10 or supplied as part of the 17-piece kit. The other 16 standard options use medium-density felt.
Choose a Precision Felt Shape
The first letter after the initial D identifies the RODA shape family. Dimensions and proportions then distinguish the individual options within that family.
| Shape Letter | Shape Family | Contact Profile and Typical Access |
|---|---|---|
| A | Barrel | Convex side profile for controlled contact across curves, radii and blended transitions |
| B | Drop | Rounded body tapering towards a narrower end for contours, recess entrances and progressive contact |
| C | Pointed Cone / Flame | Curved taper leading towards a narrow point for grooves, tight radii and detailed profiles |
| D | Sphere / Ball | All-round curved contact for concave surfaces, cavities, radii and rounded features |
| E | Cone | Straight tapered profile for angled faces, chamfers and tapered recesses |
| F | Cylinder | Flat end and straight sides for small flat faces, parallel walls and accessible bores |
| G | Pear | Rounded body with a controlled taper for contoured transitions and shaped recesses |
| H | Trapeze | Angled side contact for shoulders, sloping faces and profile transitions |
| J | Reverse Trapeze / Flat-End Cone | Tapered profile terminating in a flat end for recess bases, angled walls and defined shoulders |
| P | Pointed Cone | Long, fine taper for narrow grooves, corners and highly localised polishing contact |
Available Shape Codes and Dimensions
Selecting an individual code supplies a pack of 10 matching tools. Selecting the complete kit supplies one of every code shown below.
Dimensions are shown as maximum diameter x minimum diameter x felt length where three measurements are given, and diameter x felt length where two measurements are given. Sphere sizes show the felt diameter. Dimensions exclude the metal shank.
| Code | Shape | Dimensions | Felt Density |
|---|---|---|---|
| DA0811 | Barrel | 8 x 5 x 11mm | Medium |
| DA0914 | Barrel | 9.5 x 8 x 14mm | Medium |
| DB0811 | Drop | 8 x 5 x 11mm | Medium |
| DB1015 | Drop | 10 x 6 x 15mm | Medium |
| DC0714 | Pointed Cone / Flame | 7 x 14mm | Medium |
| DD0606 | Sphere / Ball | 6mm diameter | Medium |
| DD0808 | Sphere / Ball | 8mm diameter | Medium |
| DD1010 | Sphere / Ball | 10mm diameter | Medium |
| DE0510 | Cone | 5 x 10mm | Medium |
| DE0716 | Cone | 7.5 x 16mm | Medium |
| DF0408 | Cylinder | 4 x 8mm | Medium |
| DF0510 | Cylinder | 5 x 10mm | Medium |
| DG0812 | Pear | 8 x 6 x 12mm | Medium |
| DG1014 | Pear | 10 x 6 x 14mm | Medium |
| DH1314 | Trapeze | 13 x 8 x 14mm | Medium |
| DJ1019 | Reverse Trapeze / Flat-End Cone | 10 x 8 x 19mm | Medium |
| DP0520 | Pointed Cone | 5mm to 1mm x 20mm | Hardened |
Where several profiles can reach the workpiece, select the option that provides useful contact without obscuring, catching or rounding a feature that must remain defined. The complete kit is useful when this cannot be established from dimensions alone.
2.35mm Shank and Tool Compatibility
Every felt on this page is permanently mounted on a 2.35mm (3/32″) metal shank. No separate mandrel is required.
- Use with a rotary handpiece fitted with a matching 2.35mm or 3/32″ collet, chuck or compatible adjustable holder
- Common compatible machine formats include micromotors, pendant motors and flexible-shaft handpieces with the correct holder fitted
- A fixed 3mm or 6mm collet is not interchangeable with a 2.35mm shank
- Machine type alone does not guarantee fit; confirm the actual chuck or collet capacity before ordering
- Secure the metal shank rather than clamping the felt body
If your machine uses a 3mm or 6mm holder, consider the broader RODA Mounted Felt Bobs, Cones & Bullnose or RODA Mounted Shaped Felts ranges.
Use with Polishing, Cutting and Lapping Compounds
A compatible compound is required.
These mounted felts contain no abrasive grain and are not intended to cut or polish on their own.
The compound determines the abrasive action and achievable finish. The felt acts as a controlled carrier, supporting the compound and presenting it to the workpiece through the selected shape. Depending on the compound and process, these tools can support cutting, pre-polishing, surface refinement, precision lapping or final polishing.
- Select the compound according to the workpiece material, starting condition and required finish
- Prepare the surface adequately before attempting the final polishing stage
- Apply a controlled amount of compound and replenish it as required
- Use light pressure and keep the felt moving to reduce unnecessary heat build-up
- Use a separate felt for each compound type or abrasive grade to prevent cross-contamination
- Test the complete process on a representative area before treating a finished component
RODA Felt Density and UK Manufacture
All standard variations except DP0520 use medium-density wool felt, providing a general-purpose balance of conformity, support and shape retention for compound-assisted polishing and lapping.
DP0520 is supplied in hardened felt as its standard specification. The treatment reduces flexibility and helps the long pointed cone retain its fine working profile. This applies both to packs of 10 DP0520 felts and to the DP0520 included in the complete 17-piece kit.
Because RODA Felt tools are manufactured by Moleroda in the UK, alternative dimensions, shapes, shank arrangements and felt specifications can be considered for established polishing processes. These are bespoke enquiry options rather than selectable standard variations on this page.
For more information about how felt density affects contact and shape retention, read the guide to choosing the right felt grade and density.

Operating Guidance
- Inspect the felt and shank before use. Do not use a tool that is damaged, loose or running out of true.
- Fit the 2.35mm shank securely in a matching chuck or collet.
- Start at a low speed and establish a safe working speed for the selected shape, compound, machine and workpiece.
- Apply light, controlled pressure and keep the felt moving. Excessive pressure can generate heat, distort the contact profile and shorten tool life.
- Use a separate felt for each compound type or abrasive grade.
- Wear suitable eye protection and use guarding, extraction and other controls appropriate to the machine, compound and workpiece material.
