A Reusable Abrasive Hand File with Quick-Change Strips
The SIAfast Hook & Loop Abrasive Hand File System combines a rigid hand-file holder with replaceable 30 x 195 mm abrasive strips. It provides the controlled feel of a traditional abrasive file or emery stick while allowing worn strips or different grit grades to be changed quickly.
The hook-and-loop mounting—often referred to as a Velcro-style abrasive file—secures the strip without adhesive. The firm, flat holder supports the abrasive across its working area, helping the operator apply it evenly to flat components, straight edges and accessible profiles.
Choose the reusable SIAfast hand file on its own, order replacement Moleroda abrasive strips in packs of 25, or select the starter kit containing one file and all seven available grit grades.
Controlled, Supported Hand Finishing
The rigid file provides a stable backing for the abrasive strip, making it easier to work with greater control across flat faces and edges than with unsupported abrasive paper. It is best suited to flatter surfaces and defined edges rather than pronounced curves or deeply contoured components.

How to Use the Hook & Loop Abrasive Hand File
- Select a suitable grit for the material and required level of stock removal.
- Align a 30 x 195 mm abrasive strip with one of the hook-and-loop working faces of the file.
- Press the strip firmly and evenly into position. Fit a strip to one or both working faces as required.
- Use light, controlled strokes in the required direction, checking the surface regularly.
- Avoid excessive pressure, which may accelerate abrasive wear, create unnecessary heat or make it harder to maintain an even finish.
- Remove accumulated debris where necessary to help maintain cutting performance.
- Replace the strip when worn or change to a finer grit to continue refining the finish.
When progressing through several grades, ensure scratches from the previous grade have been removed before moving to the next. Skipping too many grit stages can make it more difficult to achieve an even surface.

Is the SIAfast Hand File the Right Abrasive Tool?
The SIAfast system is best suited to controlled hand finishing on flatter surfaces and defined edges where a rigid backing and quick abrasive replacement are useful. Other abrasive formats may be more suitable when greater flexibility, lower initial cost or powered finishing is required.
