Quick-Zip Abrasive Strips for Detailed Filing and Finishing
RODA Quick-Zip abrasive strips are precisely cut, self-adhesive abrasive refills for reusable Quick-Zip file carriers. They create a narrow abrasive working surface for controlled deburring, smoothing and refinement in slots, ribs, crevices, grooves and other areas that conventional files or larger abrasive tools cannot easily reach.
Each strip measures 55mm x 8mm and has a removable release liner protecting the self-adhesive backing. The strips can be fitted to one or both carrier faces, or centred over the carrier tip according to the feature being finished.
Quick-Zip strips are available in aluminium oxide and silicon carbide grades from 60–2500 grit. Select the abrasive grain and grit according to the workpiece material, required removal and target finish.
Supplied in packs of 50 strips.
Each pack contains one selected abrasive grain and grit.
Quick-Zip file carriers are not included.
Why Choose Quick-Zip Abrasive Strips?
Reach Restricted Features
The narrow strip format provides abrasive contact inside ribs, slots, grooves, crevices and recessed features that larger abrasive tools cannot easily reach.
Choose from 17 Grit Options
Choose from nine aluminium oxide grits and eight silicon carbide grits according to the workpiece material, required cutting action and target finish.
Configure the Abrasive Contact
Fit strips to one or both carrier faces, or wrap one strip over the tip according to the surface, edge, groove or confined detail being finished.
Replace Only the Abrasive
Continue using the same reusable carrier while replacing worn strips or changing to a different abrasive grade as the finishing process progresses.
Pre-Cut and Ready to Fit
Every 55mm x 8mm strip is supplied pre-cut with a self-adhesive backing, avoiding the need to cut and glue pieces from larger abrasive sheets or rolls.
Made in Our UK Factory
RODA Quick-Zip strips are prepared in our UK factory and supplied pre-cut in a consistent, ready-to-fit format.
Quick-Zip Abrasive Grain and Grit Guide
Quick-Zip strips are available in aluminium oxide from 60–400 grit and silicon carbide from 500–2500 grit. Choose according to the workpiece material, the amount of removal required and the target finish. Use the tables below as a practical starting point.
Aluminium Oxide Grades
Durable, general-purpose cutting action for material removal, deburring, smoothing and initial surface preparation.
| Available Grades | Relative Cut | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| 60 & 80 Grit | Coarse | Stronger material removal, shaping and removing more pronounced burrs or marks. |
| 100, 120 & 150 Grit | Medium | General deburring, blending and controlled surface preparation. |
| 180 & 240 Grit | Medium-fine | Progressive smoothing and reducing marks left by coarser abrasive grades. |
| 320 & 400 Grit | Fine | Fine smoothing, reducing light surface marks and controlled preparation for subsequent finishing stages. |
Silicon Carbide Grades
Sharp, fine cutting action for progressive smoothing, very fine refinement and preparation for later polishing stages.
| Available Grades | Relative Cut | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| 500 & 600 Grit | Fine | Fine smoothing, reducing surface marks and preparing suitable materials for further refinement. |
| 800, 1000 & 1200 Grit | Very fine | Fine finishing, reducing light marks and improving surface uniformity. |
| 1500 & 2000 Grit | Very fine | Later-stage refinement and preparation for an appropriate polishing process. |
| 2500 Grit | Very fine | The finest Quick-Zip grade for final abrasive refinement. |
Not every application requires every grit.
Select an abrasive grain suited to the workpiece, then begin with the least aggressive available grit likely to achieve the required correction. Use a coarser grit only where necessary and progress through suitable finer grits until the required surface is achieved.
Aluminium Oxide or Silicon Carbide?
Abrasive grain affects the cutting action and suitability for different workpiece materials. Consider the material, its condition and hardness, the required removal and the target finish when choosing between aluminium oxide and silicon carbide.
Choose Aluminium Oxide
Aluminium oxide provides a durable, general-purpose cutting action. It is a useful starting choice for stronger material removal, deburring and smoothing, particularly on:
- Steel and stainless steel
- Ferrous metals
- General engineering metals
- Wood and suitable composite materials
- Applications requiring a durable abrasive cut
Choose Silicon Carbide
Silicon carbide has a sharp cutting action and is commonly selected for fine surface refinement or materials that respond well to a sharper abrasive grain, including:
- Aluminium and other non-ferrous metals
- Brass, copper and precious metals
- Suitable plastics and resins
- Glass and ceramic surfaces
- Fine finishing on other compatible metals
These are starting recommendations rather than absolute rules.
Material condition, hardness, required removal and target finish can all affect the result. Test the selected abrasive on a representative or non-critical area where possible.
Detailed Filing and Finishing Applications
Quick-Zip strips are suited to detailed abrasive work where controlled contact and restricted access are more important than rapid finishing across a large surface. Refer to the abrasive grain and grit guide above when selecting a strip for a particular material.
Common Applications
- Removing small burrs from machined components
- Reducing machining and fabrication marks
- Smoothing edges and localised surface imperfections
- Blending marks left by coarser abrasive grits
- Progressive surface refinement
- Preparing detailed surfaces for subsequent polishing
- Finishing inside slots, ribs, grooves and narrow channels
- Detailed fitting, maintenance and precision repair work
Fit the Strips to a Quick-Zip Carrier
Quick-Zip strips are designed for the reusable carrier’s 60mm x 5mm working surface. The 8mm strip width intentionally creates a slight side overhang when centred, allowing the edges to be folded over, sealed or carefully trimmed according to the application.
One Face
Fit one strip to a single carrier face for selective abrasive contact against one surface, edge or wall of a slot.
Both Faces
Fit a separate strip to each carrier face when abrasive contact is required on either side.
Wrapped Over the Tip
Wrap one strip over the carrier tip to create abrasive contact for fine grooves, recesses and confined details.
Fit and Replace the Strips
- Ensure that the carrier surface is clean and free from old adhesive or abrasive fragments.
- Remove the release liner from the strip.
- Position the strip centrally according to the selected fitting configuration.
- Press the strip firmly and evenly onto the carrier.
- Fold over, seal or carefully trim the side overhang according to the required abrasive contact.
- Replace the strip when it becomes worn or when a different abrasive grain or grit is required.
Need a Reusable Quick-Zip File Carrier?
Choose from Flat, Flexible and Tapered 3mm-shank carriers for different levels of support, flexibility and access. The carrier is reusable; replace only the abrasive strips as they wear or when a different grade is required.
